The fishing in The Everglades has been really good lately. The Snook and Tarpon are chewing, that’s for sure. Not letting the crazy wind we have been having for the last month and a half get in your head and realizing that these fish still need to eat is probably one of the toughest aspects of my job.
The wind can actually help sometimes. Hopefully, this Springtime blow will ease off a little bit and open the door for some prolific days here in The Glades. The fishing for Snook and Tarpon should only heat up. As these winds decrease and the water in the Park gets a chance to clean up the fishing is going to get better and better. If you have never fished in The Everglades National Park don’t let the opportunity slip by. If you are an Avid Fly Angler or a Hardcore Spin/Plug Angler, The Park is definitely a “bucket list” destination. Be it the Backcountry or the nearshore Gulf waters. I always relate The Everglades as my warm Alaska. If you have never fished in Alaska, once you do, you will want to go back every year! This definitely stands true for The Everglades National Park. As always, thanks for checking out my Fishing Report and or my Website! Please, remember to frequent your local Fly Shop! These are the places that have helped to define what Fly Fishing is today! Wind, wind go away, come back another day!
This has been our mantra for over a month and a half. Only a few brief reprieves from the wind have happened recently. With that being said, you have to learn how to adapt and overcome. This time of year you can have spectacular fishing in the Everglades National Park, but you definitely need to know the area and realize how the wind for that particular day is going to play a role in the way you approach the areas that you fish. The Snook and Tarpon are definitely chewing. I recently had the pleasure of fishing with Matt and Taylor, a young couple from up north. Great company and pretty darn good fishing for a 3/4 day out in the Everglades! A first for Tarpon is always a winner!! Chokoloskee and Everglades City is definitely the place to be this time of year, that’s for sure! As the Tarpon show up in force and the Snook fatten up for their spawn it could possibly be one of our best seasons yet! Please remember to frequent your local Fly Shop! These brick and mortar businesses are what helped define what Fly Fishing is today!! As always, thanks again for taking the time to check out my webpage and or my fishing report. If you have any questions about the beautiful places that I am blessed to guide at, be at the Everglades National Park, Alaska or Nantucket please feel free to reach out to me. Semper Fi, Capt. Ron The Everglades National Park is definitely my “Warm Alaska”!
The weather is definitely playing tricks on us lately, but with that being said, it’s been a typical Winter. Cold fronts dipping down to our neck of the woods and then a few days of warmer weather. The Everglades National Park is truly a gem. I never get tired of my commute that is for sure. The Everglades Backcountry and Coastal areas this time of year can be awesome for Fly and Spin Anglers. Watching a big Snook or Redfish cruise down a shoreline looking for its next meal can be pretty freaking cool. Having Clients from all around the world come and fish with me is such a fun part of my job. Watching my Anglers make that great cast and being rewarded with an awesome “visual eat” makes me love what I do so much! I wish I had the patience to pull out my phone and video the scenarios that play out on my Skiff, but I think I’m partly greedy and paranoid at the same time. My luck I’d pull out my phone and would mess up positioning the Skiff for my Angler and sometimes I think what is taking place is meant for the individuals involved and not meant for the whole world to see. Watching a Tarpon hammer a fly or a plug Skiff side is a sight to see or seeing a Snook or Redfish flare their gills and slam a fly to the back of their throat and praying that your Angler remembers to “strip set” as opposed to “trout setting” is such a cool aspect of my profession. With all this being said, I would love to say that “now” is the time to come and fish The Everglades National Park, but if we’re being transparent “anytime” you can get down here and fish this magical place any of the aforementioned scenarios can play out! Please remember to frequent your local Fly Shop! These are the places that have helped make Fly Fishing what it is today! Thanks again for taking the time to check out my webpage and or my Fishing report. If you have any questions about the beautiful places that I am blessed to Guide at, be it the Everglades National Park, Alaska or Nantucket please feel free to reach out to me. Semper Fi, Capt. Ron The fishing in Everglades National Park is definitely heating up. We have been unseasonably warm for about ten days now. The water temps have picked up and so has the fishing! I recently had two Clients from Pennsylvania down for a few days and we had a blast. The Everglades is truly an amazing fishery! From Fly Fishing to Conventional gear everybody can have a blast.
This time of year can be tricky with regards to the weather. Like the last week and a half being unseasonably warm. I believe we were about 12 degrees warmer than normal. This can literally change the whole dynamic of The Park. It can expedite fish behavior and movement. Capitalize while you can because the odds are that Winter will definitely show its face again that’s for sure. The Tarpon, Snook and Redfish bite have been pretty darn good, but with the weather predicted to return to our normal Winter temps the fishing will remain great, but the locations where fish have been might change a little until our weather levels out. I love watching a nice Snook hammer a Fly or artificial lure placed in the right spot! Watching a great cast being rewarded is awesome. I love my vantage point. Being on the poling platform I pretty much get to see it all. The Everglades National Park is a treasure that we MUST do all we can do to preserve and protect. Gotta love some Winter in The Everglades! One day it’s a “Chamber of Commerce” day and the next day you’re digging for your Puffy for the run in the morning. With that being said, if the temperature swing isn’t super big then possibilities are endless in The Glades.
I recently had the chance to fish with my better half and boy did we have a blast! A little chilly for our run out, but definitely worth it. With me on the pole and Sandy on the pointy end the Snook didn’t have a chance We were throwing artificial lures this day so we both had the ability to fish at the same time. I always get asked this question. How many of your clients are Fly Anglers as opposed to Spin/Plug anglers? I’d have to say it’s probably 90-95% Fly Anglers and about 5-10% Spin/Plug Anglers. It would probably be safe to say that most of us were introduced to Fishing the conventional way, spinning rods or baitcasters. Fly Fishing is truly my passion, but I still will fish conventionally for the rest of my life. There is definitely a time and a place. I have to admit, having two proficient Spin/Plug Anglers on board can be a blast, as it was this day! Sandy’s casting has improved tremendously since we started dating, but on this day it was like a switch was flipped and she was dropping some pretty sweet casts. It definitely paid off that’s for sure. I think I might have been the one to draw first blood on a decent Snook Then Sandy hooked a really nice Snook at a cool little creek entrance between two Islands. Game on until the Snook decided to show her that he wasn’t a pushover and commenced to make a few blistering runs before ending the battle on one of my trim tabs. After catching our breath and feeling blessed to just have experienced such mayhem we licked our wounds, re-rigged, ate lunch and pressed on. With plans for that evening we both agreed to fish the next pocket of shoreline and head to the house. I believe it might have literally been her next cast when she dropped her lure in a spot that looked super fishy, twitched it once or twice and BAM This cast ended up being the last cast of our trip! A Banger and I believe her personal best so far! Thanks again for taking the time to check out my Webpage! Remember to frequent your local Fly Shop!!! These are the places that made Fly Fishing what it is today. Semper Fi, Capt. Ron Oh boy, do I love this time of year! Chilly starts and warming days can produce some great days out in The Everglades National Park. Snook, Redfish and smaller Tarpon can be around any corner!
People always ask me when is the best time of the year to come to The Park and Fly Fish or Spin/Plug fish and my response is always whenever you can get your butt down here and climb in my Skiff Yes, there are certain times of the year that are more conducive for say, larger Tarpon, but in the grand scheme of things, I’d say anytime you can break free from the hustle and bustle of everyday life is the time to come fish this truly spectacular fishery I call my home I recently had a young man by the name of Rick on board my Skiff. He traveled all the way from Sacramento, California to experience what The Everglades National Park has to offer and it’s probably safe to say that he’ll be back Thanks again for taking the time to check out my webpage! If you have any questions about the beautiful places that I am tremendously blessed to Guide at, be it The Everglades National Park, Alaska or Nantucket please feel free to reach out to me. P.S. Remember to frequent your local Fly Shop!!! These are the places that made Fly Fishing what it is today Semper Fi, Capt. Ron Winter is definitely here with temps getting into the 40’s and 50’s at night. With that being said, it’s really not that bad as long as we have good warmups between cold fronts. This is definitely nothing like we had in the Winter of 09 and 10. That was a Winter I will not soon forget. Our Snook and Juvenile Tarpon took a hard hit, that’s for sure. In my opinion, these cool downs can make for great fishing once the temps pick up throughout a day of fishing in The Everglades National Park. Watching The Glades come to life as the Sun warms certain areas can be pretty darn fun.
Snook are scattered throughout The Glades right now along with Redfish, Speckled Seatrout and Juvenile Tarpon. Catching a Backcountry Slam on any given day in The Glades is always cast away! I recently had a Father/Son duo. Tommy and his Pops, Jim out in The Park and we had a blast! Tommy is a young Hockey player and you could definitely tell with his casting. “Tight is Right” is my motto and Tommy could definitely get it in there Thanks again for checking out my website! If you have any questions about Alaska, The Everglades National Park or Nantucket please feel free to reach out to me. P.S. Remember to frequent your local Fly Shop!!! These are the places that made Fly Fishing what it is today Semper Fi, Capt. Ron Well it’s official! Winter is here! One of my favorite Seasons in The Glades. This time of year can be epic! The Everglades National Park offers so much to the Anglers who venture out into it. If you’re a hardcore Fly Angler or a Bass fisherman down deep anything from Fly tackle to Bass gear is all you need to have a great time in the Everglades. The Snook and Tarpon fishing has been a blast so far and only should get better and better as we begin our progression towards Spring. Depending on how “Winterish” it gets down here will dictate how the fish behave. Water temperatures are great right and promote fish feeding. Cool mornings with a great little warmup throughout the day makes for a fun time in the Everglades from Chokoloskee all the way down to Flamingo. Get out there and experience what such a great fishery has to offer! I’ll say it again and again, if you have not been blessed enough to have been able to spend a day or two is this spectacular ecosystem, you definitely owe it to yourself! Thanks again for checking out my website and remember if you have any questions regarding this special place or Alaska, please feel free to contact me regarding any questions that you may have. Semper Fi, Capt. Ron The fishing in the Everglades National Park has been great this Fall! It is only going to get better as we transition into Winter. Be it Fly Fishing or Spin/Plug Fishing, pick your poison! On one of my most recent trips with a Fly Angler looking for Snook we were pleasantly surprised with a nice Tripletail. You just never know what you might encounter in The Everglades, that’s for sure. This place is magical. On this particular morning we were a little fogged in, but persevered after about an hour wait. When fog rolls in down here in The Glades, your best bet is to wait it out. I did see a few boats running in the fog which saddened me. The Everglades National Park is a place for all walks of life to enjoy. This is why in foggy conditions, the safe bet is to wait for it to lift. Kayakers and Canoers can be around any corner. Safety is paramount. The good Lord looked out for us, that’s for sure. Light winds and great visibility were our reward once it cleared up and made for a great day! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions regarding Alaska or The Everglades National Park. My calendar is filling up, so be sure to book your trip well in advance, if possible.
